An atheist myself, I personally do not miss being 'accepted' by those claiming to be Christians. How your former neighbor treated you says everything about his character and nothing about yours. Choosing to extend kindness to others is not the purview of any particular group; but when membership to an exclusive identity that claims to be Christian is the barometer by which they judge others, they can keep it.
