Colby, I am going to keep bothering you because I am a persistent devil. My very serious, insomnia-inducing concern is that people equate 'wokeism' with the far-right efforts to take away actual freedom. Freedom has been defined for centuries by male philosophers and social scientists and religious figures. The female voice has only emerged very recently in human history in the grand scheme of things. Right now, we have a Supreme Court gone rogue, and far right voices amplified much more so than 'wokeists', think Musk, Fox News, Leonard Leo, Wall street Journal, etc whose voices are anything but silenced. I have daughters. One is living abroad and I am thankful she is safe from those who will gleefully take away her bodily autonomy, the most basic freedom there can be, and if she never returns, I will console myself that she is free. Please subscribe to Reproductive Rights Today and News from the States which detail legislation-not a money seeking leftist conspiracy site-and what is legally occurring to women. I am a liberal whose entire career is promoting the mental and emotional well-being of both men and women, but people are not having panic attacks and horrific insomnia because someone told them they used a wrong pronoun. Jack Nicholson's character can give that line because he never had to worry about bleeding to death in a hospital because saving him might damage his precious sperm. We are polarized and it is incredibly unhealthy, but please do not conflate your concerns about the left with the right's move towards fascism. I want my daughter home, but not if Trump wins. I want her freedom more than I want anything for myself. Thank you for facilitating my rant, it is highly cathartic.
