I do this for a living so I have to argue some points here. Fear at its core is viscerally experienced through central nervous system activation. The central nervous system evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to seek emotional safety through the group for survival. A neglected infant experiences anxiety and fear. This is not cognitive. About 75% of our brains are emotionally based. You feel safe you don’t think yourself safe. So yes how we think absolutely influences how we perceive the world and so reframing can help manage anxiety but that is secondary to the visceral experience of feeling safe. Trauma work teaches the body to feel safe. Prayer and gratitude might give you a more positive attitude for the day but are not the antidotes to clinical anxiety or depression.
