I happen to be a mother but that was never my driving passion at all. My mother encouraged my sister and me to pursue higher ed and travel, which we both did. My circle of friends included moms and non-moms and we would talk about good books, movies, and current events. I would be bored into a coma if nursing was the main topic. I feel it is important to highlight this because it truly is possible to be a mother and not lose your identity to that. It is not healthy and it seems to be a driving narrative of our current politics to pit moms against non-moms. We women are cool and interesting and valuable just because. Parenting status is merely one aspect, not the only one.
