I recommend reading the work of University of Akron Professor Ronald Levant. He uses the term toxic masculinity ideology and through years of empirical research demonstrates how men who most embody this archetype are far more prone to depression, substance abuse and violence. Converse to this is shame when they do not feel they meet this ideal, another factor in mass shootings. We can talk about this without reducing it to all or nothing, but we need to have a dialogue on real harms. Misandry, not to be condoned, does not keep men out of power or limit their civil rights.. And online aggression is heavily skewed men against women based on research detailed in The Chaos Machine. We need to address these real harms without the defense it’s not all of us. Anyone not speaking out against any injustice is silently complicit It does not diminish men to admit women are put at a disadvantage when they do not possess the same constitutional protections and that courage knows no gender.
