I want to challenge the notion that the left abandoned young men. Over the years as a social worker I’ve counseled high school boys to communicate their feelings, to build friendships, to stay out of gangs and to help them find ways to connect to others. This takes funding. We need more school social workers to identify potential suicidal youth or mass shooters. Not less. I helped with one program that offered teens and young men boxing classes with mentors. That funding was cut. Services for teens in foster care are often cut. The left promotes these policies for funding while the right wants tax cuts for the wealthy. The left had not abandoned them but the right was highly effective in making others think they had.
