Let’s say I call the police to say my car was stolen. It is unlikely they will doubt my assertion, asked if I falsely reported stolen cars previously for insurance fraud, or asked if I can be trusted to know where I parked my car. Could I be lying for fraud? Yes. But the unique nature of rape has had women blamed in some fashion, alcohol, attire, religious zealots blaming her wardrobe, etc that they have been doubly victimized. It is an under reported crime and is often a crime against minors. To consider a false accusation as violence worthy of jail unless she can PROVE she was victimized is horrific and puts women back centuries. I don’t want to see anyone go to jail when innocent and a rigorous investigation will hopefully lead to a what is right. But rape is a systemic crime used in warfare, used against children, none of whom should ever fear going to jail because it wasn’t proven. And besides men convicted of sexual assault can go on to be president.
