Time to Dump the Tea, ladies

The women, dissatisfied as they are with this form of government, that enforces taxation without representation…are this half of the people left wholly at the mercy of the other half, in direct violation of the spirit and letter of the decorations of the framers of this government, every one of which was based on the immutable principle of equal rights to all.

This was stated by Susan B. Anthony in 1872 in relation to women getting the right to vote.

In American history we have always championed the fight for freedom. The American Revolution, Dred Scott, Civil Rights, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Erin Brockovich. Who doesn’t love those stories where the underdog prevails and justice is achieved?

Think of those iconic moments captured in the history books, like Washington crossing the Delaware, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or raising the flag on Iwo Jima, paintings capturing these moments adorning museum walls.

How about the Boston Tea Party of 1773, memorialized in paintings to celebrate the political protest of the American colonists against Britain? I remember that vividly in my grade school textbook, colonial men dumping chests of tea into Boston’s harbor, protesting Britain’s imposing…
