Religions are fueled by existential anxiety at their core, hence the need to impose a comforting narrative on the unknown. I don't begrudge anyone their belief system, but the moment that belief system replaces critical thinking and empathy and attempts to rationalize the subjugation of others, then it is nothing but a divisive and harmful force in the world.
