Maybe Metallica Can Help Us Escape the Upside Down

First I must say I love Metallica and have seen them twice in concert. I will say no more as a spoiler alert for the Netflix show, Stranger Things, which just had me thinking how similar these times are to the Upside Down.

For those who don’t follow this show, let’s just say the Upside Down is a dark version of our own world, a world without order, an alternate reality.

With that being said, following are the reasons I feel like we are inhabiting the Upside Down;

We expect our comedians to be paragons of morality and our politicians to be entertainers.

We drive Al Franken out of the Senate for a funny picture and elect a sexual deviant to the Presidency.

We believe in science when we want to know conditions for fishing or farming or brewing a good beer, then dismiss it for protecting ourselves from a virus.

We spend increasing amounts of money for weight loss, now $33 billion annually, yet the obesity rate has risen to 40% of the population.

We develop more and more technology to make life easier, and yet are working more and more hours.
