The tyranny of appearance foisted upon women is absolutely by design. It keeps us in a perpetual place of self-doubt and low confidence because that type of validation is always dependent on the viewer. Ir also ensures we are good little capitalist consumers, profiting the diet and cosmetic industries. If we can liberate our daughters from this, then they can look outward with enthusiasm and optimism at a world to tackle and explore. Unfortunately, those empowering messages are being drowned out by insidious social media algorithms designed to induce this self-doubt and self-loathing. It's the new religion after all.
