True, but it is the effect that is problematic. That is why I used the car example, as in if you have a shiny new sports car, you won't be told by the police or others that you were asking for it to be stolen. So the domestic nature of intimate partner violence or stranger rape for instance there is an element in which the victim might be blamed in part. That already has a chilling effect, a common issue for instance on college campuses where a girl gets drunk, is assaulted, but never reports it because she knows how this could very likely be treated. Because I work with kids in foster care, I am al too acquainted with how common it is for victims to carry shame and feel silenced. I agree false accusations are horrific, but the reverse is so much more common that the vitriol directed toward a false accuser within your article concerns me. And now unfortunately we will swing back in the direction of victims going underground, not only because we elected a convicted sexual abuser, but because the Violence Against Women Act which expires in 2025, will not be reissued by Trump, whose own son, Don Jr. once stated, I am much more worried about my sons being accused than my daughters harmed. This is where we stand now, inflating the rarity over the more common.
