What if Men Became Pregnant?
Obviously this is all conjecture, but here’s a tentative list.
Birth control would be ubiquitous and free. Samples in the mailbox, in cute baskets in the workplace lounge, on the drink coaster at the local bar.
Paternal health care completely covered from that first prenatal visit through the six-week postpartum visit. No sneaky co-pays, no surprise hospital bill, even if they have to cut him open. Not a one.
Male doulas magically arrive at the doorstep within hours of the new dad arriving home from the hospital with his bundle of joy. Rest, rest he is encouraged while said doula swaddles the screaming eight-pounder and reassures dad his iced tea and grilled cheese will be ready shortly.
Full salary and guaranteed job protection for a calendar year as it would suddenly be recognized that the family is the foundation of any optimally functioning society and thus should be maximally supported and facilitated.
Childcare costs would not bankrupt a family nor would it be considered an entitlement. Child care workers would be well-compensated for their stellar expertise in child development and dedication to the families they serve.
